Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate Plan Includes International Roaming – Technologist

Staying connected while traveling internationally can lead to unexpected expensive charges on your monthly cell phone bill. Fortunately, plans like Verizon Wireless’ Unlimited Ultimate include international roaming for free.

In this article, I’ll take a closer look at Verizon’s best unlimited plan for frequent international travelers.

Verizon Wireless’ Best Plan for Frequent Travelers

Last year, Verizon Wireless announced a new lineup of “myPlan” unlimited cell phone plans. A few months later, Verizon added the Unlimited Ultimate plan to its myPlan lineup. Unlimited Ultimate is Verizon’s most expensive unlimited plan. However, if you frequently visit other countries, the plan could pay for itself in international fees.

Unlimited Ultimate costs $90 plus taxes and fees for one line with an autopay discount. If you add multiple lines, the plan becomes more affordable.

  • $80/line for two lines ($160 total)
  • $65/line for three lines ($195 total)
  • $55/line for four lines ($220 total)

For this price, you’ll get unlimited premium data on Verizon’s fastest 5G Ultra Wideband network. It also includes 60GB of mobile hotspot and access to Verizon’s best smartphone trade-in and upgrade offers.

In addition to these features, Unlimited Ultimate includes an excellent lineup of international travel benefits:

  • Unlimited international data, talk and text in 210+ countries and destinations
  • 2GB high-speed data/day followed by unlimited 3G speeds in Mexico and Canada
  • 10GB high-speed data/month followed by unlimited 2G speeds in other 210+ other countries and destinations
  • Unlimited international talk & text from the U.S. to Mexico and Canada
  • Up to 300 minutes to call one country of your choice from the U.S.
  • Unlimited text to 210+ countries from the U.S.

You can learn more about Verizon’s unlimited plans here. You can also visit Verizon’s website to see additional plan details, check the coverage in your area and see if your phone is compatible with Verizon’s network.

If you are able to bring your phone with you to Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate plan, you may be eligible for a Bring Your Phone Discount with up to $540 in promo credit applied to your bill over 36 months.

The Best International Phone Plans: How Does Verizon Compare?

Keeping your phone connected outside of the U.S. can quickly get expensive.

For example, AT&T’s postpaid unlimited plans include a very limited amount of international benefits. Instead, AT&T customers are encouraged to buy an International Day Pass for $12/day to stay connected. After a week-long trip, that’s an additional $84 added to your monthly phone bill. To compare, Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate plan costs $90 total for one line and includes international roaming. With four lines, the monthly bill could be as low as $55 per line without any worries of international usage fees.

Alternatively, Google Fi Wireless (Team Clark’s Review) and T-Mobile have always been two of our top picks for the best international phone plans. I took a closer look at the plans from these providers that offer the best international perks to see how Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate plan compares:

As you can see, Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate costs the same for one line as T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus. However, Verizon’s plan offers more high-speed data outside the U.S. compared to T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus.

Google Fi Wireless’ Unlimited Plus plan is more affordable overall, plus you’ll get significantly more high-speed data while visiting other countries. However, you will have to pay for calls while traveling whereas Verizon’s plan includes international calling for free. Google Fi Wireless also uses T-Mobile’s network. If you’d prefer to stay on Verizon’s network, Unlimited Ultimate is the best international phone plan.

Verizon also offers an optional international roaming add-on for any of its myPlan customers. The “3 TravelPass Days” perk costs $10/month and includes three days of Verizon’s TravelPass, which typically costs $10/day. You can add or remove this perk at any time and accrue up to 36 days TravelPass days. Adding this perk to Verizon’s Unlimited Welcome plan or Unlimited Plus plan could be another way to pay less on your monthly phone bill and still save on international roaming. You can learn more about Verizon’s TravelPass perk here.
