Lively Jitterbug Smartphone Plans Now Include 1GB of Data – Technologist

Lively recently updated the lineup of data plans available for Jitterbug Smartphones. Now, instead of paying $5 for 1GB of high-speed data in addition to your plan, it’ll be included for free. Lively’s other data plans have also changed to include more high-speed data with no price increase.

In this article, I’ll take a closer look at Lively’s recent plan changes and how the new pricing compares to other MVNOs.

Lively’s New Data Plans for Jitterbug Smartphones

Lively (Team Clark’s Review) is a postpaid wireless carrier that’s owned by Best Buy and provides cell phone service using Verizon Wireless’ network. At Clark.com, we recommend Lively as one of the best cell phone service providers for seniors due to the company’s low-cost plans, easy-to-use Jitterbug phones and senior-specific services. 

Lively recently updated the data plans available to customers with a Jitterbug Smartphone. Previously, plans only included unlimited talk and text without any mobile data. To add 1GB of high-speed data, you would have to pay $5/month in addition to your plan price. Now, customers on any plan will get 1GB of data included each month for no additional cost. Additionally, Lively has added more high-speed data to two other data plans without any price increase.

Here are the new data plans available from Lively on a Jitterbug Smartphone:

• $0 for 1GB (previously $5)
• $5 for 5GB (previously 1GB)
• $10 for 15GB (previously 5GB)
• $30 for 20GB (no change)

If you use more than your plan’s allowance of mobile data in any billing cycle, you’ll be charged two cents per MB. Previously, Lively charged 10 cents per MB for additional data usage. Customers on the $30 “unlimited” data plan will experience reduced speeds (128kbps) after using 20GB in a single billing cycle.

Lively’s data plans are only available to customers with a Jitterbug Smartphone. Also, the pricing for a data plan does not include the base price for Lively cell phone service. Lively’s plans begin at $19.99/month.

Lively: The Best Cell Phone Service Provider for Senior Services

If you aren’t familiar with Lively, it’s a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that uses Verizon Wireless’ towers to provide cell phone service to customers for a lower monthly cost. Lively stands out among cell phone service providers for its focus on senior citizens.

Lively provides senior-focused products and services including Jitterbug phones, medical alert devices and more. You have to have a Jitterbug phone to get a cell phone service plan from Lively. Current options include the Jitterbug Flip2 ($59.99) or a Jitterbug Smart4 ($99.99). Both phones are eligible for any of Lively’s three plans: 

• Basic: $19.99/month with unlimited talk and text, Ask Lively and Lively Rides
• Preferred: $39.99/month with unlimited talk and text, Ask Lively, Lively Rides, Urgent Response and Lively Link
• Premium: $49.99/month with unlimited talk and text, Ask Lively, Lively Rides, Urgent Response, Lively Link, Care Advocate and Nurse On-Call

You can learn more about Lively’s senior services here. 1GB of high-speed data is included for free on all plans with a Jitterbug Smartphone. If you need more than 1GB of data, you can add a data plan to the Basic, Preferred or Premium plans. Data plans aren’t available for Jitterbug flip phones.

Compared to Verizon Wireless, Lively offers access to the same network for a significantly cheaper price. Postpaid unlimited plans from Verizon begin at $65 for one line with autopay. In contrast, Lively’s basic plan plus an unlimited data plan would cost $49.99. If you don’t need unlimited data, you can save even more. 

Other MVNOs offer better prices for smaller amounts of high-speed data. For example, Tello Mobile (Team Clark’s Review) offers 1GB for $9/month or 2GB for $10/month with unlimited talk and text included. If you don’t need any high-speed data, you can get a talk-and-text-only plan from Hello Mobile (Team Clark’s Review) for $5. However, Lively does offer senior services that you won’t find with other MVNOs.
