Ericsson Launches IoT And In-vehicle Routers For Next-gen AI Applications – Technologist

Ericsson has unveiled two innovative routers, the Cradlepoint R980 and S400, aimed at enhancing connectivity for enterprises leveraging AI and IoT technologies. These routers respond to the growing demand for secure and reliable Wireless WAN solutions as businesses expand their use of advanced technologies across IoT and vehicle networks.

The ruggedized Cradlepoint R980 is a high-performance 5G router designed specifically for vehicles. It supports advanced applications like AI-driven video recognition and real-time data analysis, making it ideal for sectors such as public safety and smart cities.

Its 3rd generation 5G architecture ensures compatibility with the latest network technologies, including 3GPP Release 16, which facilitates advanced functionalities like network slicing. The R980’s embedded e-SIM enhances flexibility, enabling over-the-air carrier switching for improved operational efficiency.

Pankaj Malhotra, head of enterprise networking at Ericsson, emphasized the necessity for resilient connectivity as AI transforms various industries. The integration of the R980 with Ericsson’s NetCloud Manager simplifies deployment and management while providing robust security features.

The Cradlepoint S400, as one of the first zero-trust IoT appliances, offers secure connectivity for diverse use cases including industrial applications and smart building controls. Its semi-rugged design includes expandable interface options, providing IT specialists the ability to customize based on specific deployment needs. The S400 also incorporates NetCloud SASE Secure Connect, ensuring that even vulnerable IoT devices maintain high-security standards.

To streamline large-scale deployments, Ericsson’s NetCloud introduces Cellular Intelligence features that automate carrier selection and enhance troubleshooting capabilities. These features are available across both the R980 and S400, facilitating quick installation and efficient performance monitoring.

Joop Gerlach, COO of Blue Wireless, highlighted how these routers enhance reliability and scalability in the Mobility and IoT sector, further supporting managed services and accelerating wireless adoption for businesses globally.
